So we all know that Valentines day is approaching and for some of us who have a significant other, it may be a great holiday but for others it is one of the more dreaded Holidays. I have been there with the latter group before and I want to tell you how I started looking at Valentines Day in a different way.

In America, Valentines Day is a day of love for your significant other and if you don't have anyone it kind of leaves you hanging in the dust but in some cultures it is a day of friendship and relationships. How awesome is that? There is no expectation of having to be in a relationship to be able to celebrate Valentines day. Since I have spent every Valentines day single, I want to change my attitude about it and start being thankful for the friendships and relationships I do have in my life.

Last year, on Valentines Day I posted a picture on Instagram and it feels like ages ago now, but the caption said "As this holiday is coming to an end and I am sitting on the couch eating chocolate, chocolate chip ice cream, I am thinking about how the Lord is truly the best Valentine. He is my first love, He is my father, He is my husband, and He is the THE GREATEST OF ALL ROMANCE. He satisfies my soul more than any relationship could and loves me better than any man could. It can sound kind of weird that God could be my father and husband but it is simply because He is all that I need, He is the spiritual leader that I can find in my dad, or a husband but He truly satisfies. He loves me despite my faults and my natural human desire to choose my way over His, His love is more unconditional than any mother or friend could have and for that I worship Him and truly love Him with all of my heart!"

I still stand by what I said in that post and it is true! When you have a relationship with the Lord you can find satisfaction in Him and become fully consumed by Him. He Himself is love, He is the definition of love and so I look at Valentines day as being a day to celebrate His love for us and celebrate all that He has blessed our lives with, like relationships. This Valentines Day, let's make it a point to change our hearts about it. We don't need to be in a relationship to celebrate this day, we can start celebrating all the relationships we have been blessed with. I know for me, I am so thankful for the relationship that I have with my family and friends and I want to celebrate those relationships this year on Valentines Day.

If you are single, what relationships do you have in your life that you can be thankful for and celebrate this Valentines Day?
